Gurgaon Metro safety check put off by two days
The 14.47 km Gurgaon Metro corridor is now scheduled to open for the public by June 15. According to sources,the Delhi Metro has asked for two more days for last-minute touches to the HUDA City Centre-Qutab Minar corridor. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety R K Kardam has,therefore,postponed the inspection of the line from June 7 and 8,to June 9 and 10.
Car crashes into divider,three dead,2 injured
Greater Noida: Three persons were killed and two injured when their car crashed into a divider around midnight on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. The deceased have been identified as Rajkumar,25,a vegetable shopowner of Ghaziapur; Rohan Tyagi,24,a marketing associate in a multinational company; and Anuj Chauhan alias Jeetu,23,an MBA student studying in Pune. Two men,Praveen and Kuldeep,survived the accident. Rajkumar was driving the car,the police said. The accident occurred around 12.30 am on the Expressway, Greater Noida Station House Officer Mrityunjay Singh said. The police suspect the driver of the car was under the influence of alcohol and speeding.
Cable operator found dead in Dwarka
Body of a cable operator was found outside a DDA market in Dwarka,Southwest Delhi,on Monday. The police identified the victim as Akash Kumar,25. It appears that Akash and one of his associates were drinking with three other rival cable service providers from the area. They entered into an argument,which turned into a violent scuffle. Akash and his associate were assaulted by their companions, a police official said. Three persons have been detained and a case has been registered.
Sugar factory employee robbed at gunpoint
Three armed assailants held a 30-year-old man hostage at gunpoint in Khajuri Khas area of Northeast Delhi and robbed him of lakhs of rupees on Monday. The victim,Jagdish Kumar,was on his way to deposit the cash at a bank when the incident happened,the police said. Sources said the three intercepted him in the parking lot of Bank of Baroda in Khajuri Khas. Jagdish works at a sugar factory in Karawal Nagar and had been sent by the factory officials to deposit the cash.
Katara case: Eyewitness alleges harassment
Ajay Katara,a key witness in the Nitish Katara murder case,filed a plea in a Delhi court on Monday alleging harassment by the Uttar Pradesh police. Ajay claimed the UP police have lodged 10 fake cases against him at various police stations in Ghaziabad,for testifying in the Nitish Katara case. Additional Sessions Judge J R Aryan issued notice to the Ghaziabad SSP for July 8 to file a report in response to the allegations.
No change of prison cell for IM militant
A Delhi court on Monday refused to pass any order on an application by alleged Indian Mujahideen militant Salman Ahmad. Ahmad had filed a plea seeking directions to be shifted from his present prison cell,alleging threat to his life from other inmates. The courts decision came after Tihar Jail authorities submitted a report stating Ahmad was already being kept in a high security ward. The authorities also said the accused has been kept in a ward meant for prisoners between the age group of 18 and 21 even though the court had earlier ruled that he was not a minor.
C R Rana is new Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner
Chandigarh: C R Rana,Deputy Commissioner,Mewat and Chief Executive Officer,Mewat Development Agency,has been given additional charge of Deputy Commissioner,Gurgaon. He has also been posted as Chief Administrator,Shree Mata Sheetla Devi Shrine Board in Gurgaon replacing R K Kataria,who is on a tour abroad. The order was issued by Haryana Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati on Monday.
