Absence of communication between a Kingfisher Airlines flight carrying 50 passengers from Amritsar to Delhi and the Air Traffic Control for about seven minutes led to a ‘hijack’ alert at the IGI Airport on Thursday evening.

Absence of communication between a Kingfisher Airlines flight carrying 50 passengers from Amritsar to Delhi and the Air Traffic Control (ATC) for about seven minutes led to a ‘hijack’ alert at the IGI Airport on Thursday evening. According to sources,the turbo-propped ATR aircraft,during its 40-minute flight,was not in communication with ATC for about seven minutes,triggering the alert issued by IAF communication wing. Security personnel at the airport were in a tizzy for a while after the alert and the picture became clear soon after contact resumed between the plane and the ATC,officials said.

Teen dies at home for mentally challenged
Another inmate died at Asha Kiran home for mentally challenged people on Thursday morning. This was the 21st death at the Rohini home in December and January,according to reports. Sonu Mishra,19,died at Lok Nayak Hospital at 11 am. He was at the Asha Kiran complex since February 1,2003. The police are trying to trace his family and an SDM inquiry has been issued in the case.
