Profile: Businessman by profession,he has been a social worker since 1993 and assisted his father in forming the Delhi Vikas Sanstha,an organisation which assists people in taking up issues with civic bodies. Ravi also worked with BJP briefly.

Constituency: The main issues in Karol Bagh,known for its markets and its diverse population,were rising water and electricity prices and women’s safety.

Profile: A lawyer,Madan Lal worked in Patiala House Courts and was the founding president of Saket Bar Association.

Constituency:A Punjabi bastion,Kasturba Nagar,falls under the New Delhi parliamentary constituency. Main issues here are sewerage,drinking water,school,parks and parking.

Beat BJP leader Dushyant Kumar

Gautam by over 7,490 votes

Profile: A property dealer,Kumar was also part of Anna Jan Lokpal movement.

Constituency: Once known for wholesale markets,Kondli,with a population of 1,57,000,was transformed into an urban village in 1975. The area is marked by a lack of civic amenities.

Profile: An IIT-tian,Bharti is also a practising lawyer. He was an active member of the Jan Lokpal movement.

Constituency: Malviya Nagar was populated by refugees from Pakistan in the 50s. Today,up-scale areas share boundaries with unauthorised colonies that lack basic amenities.

Profile: The youngest MLA in these elections,Prakash is an MCom graduate and worked as an assistant manager in an MNC.

Constituency: The area has a large number of resettlement and unauthorised colonies. Over 64 per cent people voted here.

Constituency: The voter base here constitutes the urban rich and the middle class. The area saw over 65 % turnout with a high record of first-time voters.

Profile: Singh runs an insurance business and claims that his interaction with poor patients while visiting hospitals drew him to social work and eventually into politics.

Constituency: The area is a mixed bag of unplanned houses,big market areas amidst posh bungalows and DDA flats. Lack of drinking water and parking space,rising prices,garbage disposal are the main issues.

Profile: His name had come up in mediasarkar.com’s sting operation. Mohaniya,a businessman,took part in the India Against Corruption movement.

Constituency: With nearly 1.5 lakh voters,this South Delhi constituency is home to a large number of migrants.

and three-time Congress MLA Rajesh Jain by 2,985 votes.

Profile: Sharma was involved in students’ politics at DU. He was also involved in the Jan Lokpal movement before he joined AAP.

Constituency: A trade hub,Sadar Bazar had seen Congress wrest control from BJP 15 years ago. But even after three consecutive terms,Congress has been unable to solve basic issues here.

Profile: Garg is an RTI activist from Rohini. He was a member of the Congress earlier and his wife had contested municipal elections on a Congress ticket.

Constituency: Considered to be a BJP stronghold,Rohini was the venue for Narendra Modi’s first rally in Capital after he was announced the PM candidate.

Profile: A former journalist with Zee News and All India Radio,Sisodia was also an RTI activist before he joined the Jan Lokpal movement.

Constituency: It comprises people from various strata of society.

by 3,738 votes.

Profile: A businesswoman,Anand is among the three woman MLAs in Delhi.

Constituency: Civic issues related to parking,traffic and sewers dominated the battle here. Comprising resettlement colonies,the constituency has a number of Punjabi and Khatri voters.

Profile: After his sister and AAP member Santosh Koli died in a car accident,Koli became the candidate from Seemapuri.

Constituency: The constituency is mainly rural .

Profile: An architect,Satyendra Jain was a CPWD employee who claimed he quit the job over corruption. He started his consultancy firm joining the AAP .

Constituency: This is a trader dominated constituency,comprising mainly of the Vaishya community.

Bandana Kumari

Constituency: Shalimar Bagh

by 10,651 votes.

Profile: Bandana started the organisation ‘Nayi Pehal’ which works for women empowerment. She was also involved in Jan Lokpal movement.

Constituency: Shalimar Bagh has a diverse population in terms of occupation,income and religion. It was considered a traditional BJP stronghold.

by 2,088 votes.

Profile: He is the owner of a water purifier company.

Constituency: It is a suburban area with majority Sikh population and is a popular shopping destination.

Harish Khanna

Timarpur

Beat Rajni Abbi (BJP) by 3,383 votes.

Profile: A former Hindi lecturer,she was also the president of DUTA. She has won the DUTA polls eight times.

Constituency: One of the seven electoral constituencies,Timarpur comprises DU and Wazirabad areas. It is a predominantly a government residential area.

by 17,685 votes.

Profile: Dhingan served in the CISF. He now provides free training to youth in body-building.

Constituency: The key issues in this Sikh dominated area were women’s issues,inflation and electricity and water tariffs.

Beat Krishan Gahlot (BJP) by 405 votes.

Profile: He is a social worker and was associated with the BJP for over 10 years. But he broke away from the BJP and joined the Jan Lokpal movement and later AAP.

Constituency: A Punjabi resettlement colony in West Delhi,Vikaspuri is a planned urban residential colony. It underwent a boom the 1990s.

Akhileshpati Tripathi

Model Town

Beat Ashok Goel (BJP) by 7,875 votes.

Profile: A postgraduate in ancient Indian history,Tripathi was a social activist prior to joining the AAP. He has raised issues of corruption,especially in rationing and black marketing in oil.

Constituency: Comprises primarily of Sikhs and Punjabis. It is located in Northwest Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi

Beat Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit (INC)

by 25,864 votes.

Profile: A former Income Tax commissioner,Kejriwal left his job and became an RTI activist. The IIT-Kharagpur alumnus also started Parivartan,an NGO 13 years ago. A leading figure in the Jan Lokpal movement in 2011,Kejriwal fasted along with Anna Hazare and later formed the AAP.

Constituency: Largely considered the residence of top ministers and bureaucrats,New Delhi has been the stronghold of Congress. Dikshit won from the seat thrice.

Vinod Kumar Binny

Laxmi Nagar

Beat A K Walia (INC) by 7,752 votes.

Profile: A former Congress member,Binny left the party to join the India Against Corruption movement. He was is also a councillor from East Delhi and is known for holding ‘mohalla sabhas’.

Constituency: The constituency is a mix of industrial and residential areas — comprising both unauthorised and regularised colonies. Located near the Yamuna,the area is congested and lacks a proper drainage system.
