Only AIADMK can oppose DMK, will dislodge it from power: Edappadi Palaniswami

Commenting on the party’s decision to contest the Karnataka Assembly polls, Palaniswami says there is no confusion on the alliance between the BJP and the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said Thursday that his party would function as Tamil Nadu’s main Opposition party with more vigour and that the focus would be on dislodging the DMK from power.

“The only party that has the capability to oppose the DMK is the AIADMK. Our goal is to send this DMK government home and establish the Amma government again in the state,” Palaniswami told reporters after the Election Commission of India wrote to him acknowledging the amendments to the AIADMK’s constitution, his appointment as the party general secretary and other changes made to the list of office-bearers.

Thanking all the cadres and leaders for their support, Palaniswami said all of them should work together and make the dream of their party leaders M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa come true.

Palaniswami said that except for a few “selfish people”, those who want the AIADMK to return to power were always welcome to come back to the party. He said the party had started working for the Lok Sabha polls by appointing booth committee members and that district secretaries had been briefed on the plans.

Commenting on the party’s decision to contest the Karnataka Assembly polls, Palaniswami said there was no confusion on the alliance between the BJP and the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. He said that since the AIADMK had put up only one candidate in the neighbouring state, it would not be an issue for the BJP.

Palaniswami said the conference scheduled to be held in Madurai on August 20 would be a historic one. He and other senior AIADMK leaders visited the memorials to their leaders and paid floral tributes.
