Hoshiarpur:Radical Sikh organisation Dal Khalsa and some other like-minded units on Saturday asked Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal to state why two SAD (Panch Pardhani) leaders Daljit Singh and Kulbir Singh Barapind have been arrested. Let Sukhbir,who is also the home minister,explain what prompted the police to arrest the duo, the parties said in a joint statement. The two men have been booked for indulging in anti-state activities.

DGSE issues notices to late comers,absentee teachers

Ferozepur:In a surprise check on 141 schools in Ferozepur on Saturday,director general school education (DGSE) K S Pannu found 19 teachers absent,while 56 came late and 20 absent since long. A showcause notice has been issued to the late comers and absentees. The DGSE also suspended a teacher Raj Kumar Beri for creating indiscipline in Government School,Basti Bela. Tow teachers who had managed to get posting elsewhere,were reverted back to their original postings.

State mobilises Rs 3,117 cr under saving schemes

Chandigarh:The Punjab government has mobilised funds to the tune of Rs 3,117 crore under small saving schemes during first four months of the current fiscal. During the current year Rs 3,117 crore has been collected till July,2012 under various small savings schemes,whereas Rs 2,948 crore were collected in the previous year till July 2011, Punjab Small Savings scheme Director Jaspal Singh said on Saturday. While announcing the winners of 38th Lucky Coupon Scheme of Small Savings,he said the state government has amassed approximately Rs 9,619 crore under various small savings schemes till March 31,2012.
