A Twenty-one day long summer camp for young swimmers at NIS,Patiala concluded on Monday. The camp started on June 2 and the young swimmers learned the basics and improved thier skills. The young swimmers had two practice sessions in a day. The amp has been a regular feature at NIS for the past three years and has been conducted by swimming coach JS Bhullar.

During the camp, children were allowed to use the facility twice a day which, otherwise,is not possible for the beginners. During summers,it provides extra advantage for those who join the camp. Bhullar further added that such camps provide the first step to the children towards competitive swimming.

Amar Jeet Singh Sandhu, chief swimming coach sounded relieved after the successful completion of the camp. “Most of the youngsters are all novices. They are not only to be trained, but to be trained taking into consideration all the safety measures. Even a complaint of a headache by a child is to be taken seriously,” said Sandhu.

The success of the camp is a combined effort of the pool staff as well as the parents, and helps in motivating the children to take interest in swimming and making it a hobby as well as a profession.
