We need more PhD’s in India,as the focus now is on research,” says Rajendra S Pawar, the Pro-Chancellor of NIIT University,as he announces the launch of the NIIT University in Neemrana,Rajasthan. Been in the education industry since 1981,Pawar tells us as if now the demand for PhDs is 10 times more than the supply. “This, particularly because of opening of Indian economy in the last decade and the fact that we need to develop our own technical know-how,” Pawar tells us that’s the reason they are encouraging research at the highest level through PhD programs in Computer Science and Engineering,Educational Technology and Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, along with two courses in its MTech program and one course in its BTech program.

“Besides,we are trying to replace the outdated teaching methodology with innovation, where and when it is possible,” Pawar tells us the courses have been designed in a fashion that they form an industry link, are technology-based and research driven and give a fair knowledge of all streams.

The University is set to host its first class in September.
