Family’s wait for body continues

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who is at present in the US on a private visit, condoled the untimely death of Dr Vajinder Toor of Mohali on Friday. Toor was shot dead by his disgruntled Chinese colleague on four days ago.

On coming to know about the brutal murder of the 34-year-old Punjabi doctor outside his Branford,Connecticut home,Badal sent his aide Daljit Singh Cheema to offer all possible help and support to the grieving family in Phase X here.

Offering condolence on the behalf of the CM,Cheema assured the Toor family that the state government will extend all possible help and support as and when required. He told the family that Badal will also talk to the US government to seek severe punishment for Dr Lishan Wang,44,who shot Toor and also fired at his pregnant wife Parneeta Sidhu.

Parneeta escaped unhurt after ducking behind a car. Meanwhile, the wait of the Toor family for his body, even after four days of the murder, still continues. Mandeep, who was adopted by Toor’s parents, told Newsline that his younger brother Tejinder and mother Parsanjit Kaur have reached his home this morning to join Parneeta, their three-year-old son Angad and father Sohan Singh Toor, who had landed there two days ago.

She said the US Police were still conducting the criminal investigation and till it concludes, the body will remain in the hospital. But no one knows how long will that take. “Since the entire family has reached there, last rites will probably be performed in the US,” she said.

“Last month when I talked to him over the phone,he asked me to get married soon,so that he could come for the occasion. He was very intelligent, affectionate, helpful and a hardworking doctor,” said Mandeep. Toor had been living in Branford with his wife and son since 2005.
