Chandan Rana, president of Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC),along with student representatives from University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) wrote a letter to PU authorities highlighting the problems UILS students faced.

Among issues raised were introduction of a one-year LLM course in the institute, shortage of staff, inadequate parking space and setting up of digital notice boards.

The students held that the current 2-year course being run by the Department of Law had limited seats and hence,a one-year LLM course should be introduced.

Highlighting the problem of inadequate parking, the student representatives said UILS was a big department with over 700 students, but the parking space could accommodate only 150 cars.

“The parking space should be extended since there are more than 400 cars in the department. This creates a chaos,” said one of the students.

The issue of shortage of staff was also raised after students complaining that there had been no teacher for subjects like Economics and Accounts since the last semester.

Also,Chandan Rana said that digital notice boards should also be made available in the department, which should display daily notices along with directions regarding various forms and examinations.

“UILS is one of the most prestigious institutions in the northern region with its students bringing laurels to the university every year. It is their moral responsibility to provide them with the best facilities,” said Rana.

Also, the students complained that their demand for a fest had been pending since six years.

According to students,as a result of this, they had not got an opportunity to interact with students from other law schools and universities.
