Proclaimed offender and prime accused in the murder of a Chandigarh resident,Ashish Arora alias Ashu was nabbed by the Panchkula police on Saturday. Arora is also one of the two accused who was involved in recent drugging of three passengers,including two UK nationals,on board the Chandigarh-Dehradun Summer Special train.
Arora,a resident of Sector 20,Panchkula,had been on the run since last year. He was released from the Burail jail on parole for seven days after the death of his brother; but he never returned, said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.
In September 2001,Arora allegedly shot dead his brother-in-law Joginder Singh in Sector 23,Chandigarh. Thereafter,Arora fled to Jammu and then on to Mumbai,from where he was arrested on March 5,2002. He was brought from Mumbai on production warrant by the UT police and was then lodged in Burail jail.
Arora also reportedly orchestrated the abduction of his son Sonu and wife Kamaljeet Kaur on two separate occasions about 10 years ago.
Arora has been involved in a number of criminal activities in Mumbai and has about a dozen criminal cases registered against him at Panchkula as well.
