‘No need to panic,typhoid cases under control’

Urging residents to not press the panic button,the General Hospital,Sector 6 claimed that there were few typhoid cases in the township. The hospital authorities presented the details of the number of cases in the OPD over the last ten days,while addressing the media interaction on Wednesday.

To substantiate its claims,the hospital also collected data from around five government dispensaries and government-recognised private practitioners about the number of patients who tested positive for typhoid. The hospital,which has an OPD for nearly 1,500 patients per day,had around 67 patients infected with typhoid in the last ten days. Of these,nearly 20 cases were from Mani Majra and Mansa Devi Complex.

“Similarly,around 236 patients that had complained of fever in various private clinics and dispensaries,of which 17 were suffering from typhoid. Taking into account the total number of patients visiting the OPD and typhoid cases,the situation has not turned into an epidemic and residents need not fear,” said civil surgeon Dr Rakesh Choudhary.

Meanwhile,he also suggested people to avoid eating items sold on roadside as a preventive measure. The hospital also tested water samples for purification in Sectors 25,26,27 and 28. “To be on the safer side,we have treated water in these areas with chlorine. Water sample from around 13 tubewells were also taken,” said district health officer Dr Jagmal Singh.

To make certain that the disease does not take the form of an epidemic,the hospital also conducted survey of over 1,100 houses in Sector 4,7,8,9 and 10. Markets in Sector 6 and 7 and sabzi mandi in Sector 16 were also visited by health authorities.
