Fighters from across the world warm up for the Super Fight League
It’s time for the beasts to be let loose in the cage as the bell rings for the Super Fight League (SFL). Leading the fight club are entrepreneur Raj Kundra and actor Sanjay Dutt,making this reality show Indian television’s first professionally organised Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighting league.
” MMA is a full contact sport,an organised street fight which uses both striking and grappling techniques and involves 36 different martial arts,” explains Kundra. The show will be aired on Colors. “Sanjay and I wanted to promote a sport other than cricket,and Sanjay knows more about it as he’s trained in martial arts,” adds Kundra.
Boxing,wrestling,Muay Thai,kickboxing,karate,judo,Brazilian jiu-jitsu SFL will have it all. And it won’t be men only. Women,too,will rough it out in the “cage”. To add value and life to the league,Kundra and Dutt along with league’s CEO Ken Pavia and COO Daniel Isaac,plan to open SFL training schools across India. “We already have a training camp in Nasik and will open another by December,” says Kundra. MMA a multi-billion dollar industry in the West,and the men want to cash in on the male dominant demographic (between 18 and 35) in India.
The Indian fighters are Ricky Ranjeet Singh,Chaitanya Gavali,Bharat Kandare and Anup Kumar among others. The Chandigarh edition is the second leg of the event with the first leg of the event held in Mumbai last month. The fighters will also be given tasks throughout the week. “And yes,like Bigg Boss,the fighters will be completely cut off from the outside world. They will be trained daily and we are bringing the best MMA trainers,” says Kundra. Let the best man (or woman) win. The fights will be streamed live on youtube and the Chandigarh leg will start at 6 p.m at Sector 17,on Saturday.
