THE Ludhiana Police on Sunday arrested a 22-year-old youth and his 40-year-old accomplice for allegedly raping and strangling to death a schoolgirl, who had been reported missing on December 5. Police said the accused, Sanjay Kumar (22) of Kamla Nagar and Jatinder Kumar (40) of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, kidnapped the girl from Dholewal on December 5 and allegedly gangraped and killed her at an abandoned plot on Dhandhra road in Ludhiana.
Her decomposed body was spotted by a passerby on Sunday, who informed the police. After identifying the body, police arrested the accused. They allegedly confessed to the crime.
Inspector Kanwarjit Singh, SHO, Focal Point, said Sanjay Kumar used to stalk the victim and had written an apology after the woman had filed a complaint. The SHO added that Kumar confessed that he along with Jatinder allegedly kidnapped and gang raped the girl.
Sanjay Kumar works with his uncle, a commission agent at the fruit market, while Jatinder runs a cycle repair shop.
