Additional District Judge J S Bhatia, who was holding the trial of a high-profile corruption and disproportionate assets case against Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, has been promoted as District and Sessions Judge and posted at Hoshiarpur. Rajinder Kumar Aggarwal has replaced Bhatia as the new ADJ.

Aggarwal was working at the same post in Sangrur. Bhatia was given a warm farewell after he relinquished his charge here, while Aggarwal assumed his new posting.

Incidentally,Bhatia was the second judge to be promoted, who conducted Badals’ trial. Recently, another ADJ,J S Klar, was promoted as the District and Sessions Judge and posted at Muktsar.

Also,District Attorney Pradeep Mehta, who was in-charge of prosecution in the Badals case, was promoted as the Joint Director (Prosecution) and posted with the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in Chandigarh.

Official sources, however, claimed that these promotions were a routine exercise, based purely on merit and without having any link with the Badals case.

In a related development,Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division)-cum-Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate,Lalit Kumar Singla, was shifted to the same post in Talwandi Sabo.

Jaspinder Singh Hayer from Jalandhar was posted in his place. While Singla relinquished his charge today,Hayer is yet to assume his new posting.
