CHANDIGARH:
The northern regional office of Bureau of Indian Standards concluded the Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations which began on November 3. The week was organised to spread awareness for the fight against corruption,promoting transparency and accountability at all levels of work. During the week,essay writing and slogan writing competitions were organised. The winners were awarded prizes by S K Khanna,deputy director general,BIS.

Rs 55,000 stolen from Panchkula gurdwara
PANCHKULA:
Around Rs 55,000 was stolen from the Sector-7 Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Panchkula on Tuesday night. The theft came to light when the gurdwara was opened in the morning. The police have registered a case.

Chain snatcher arrested from Panchkula
PANCHKULA:
A chain snatcher,who robbed a woman of her chain,was arrested from Panchkula on Monday. The victim,Sonali Sangari,was taking a walk in the Sector-5 Town Park alongwith her friend when the thief attcked them. The women raised the alarm. Some passersby chased him and handed him over to the police. However,the chain could not be recovered from him.

Trains stalled in Ambala
Ambala:
Agitation by sugarcane producers in Uttar Pradesh resulted in a delay of about a half dozen trains arriving in Ambala. While some trains reached Ambala station late by several hours,trains on the way to UP were held up in the city. The affected trains included Super Express 4682,Chandigarh-Chennai Express,Kalka-Delhi Passenger train,Barmer Express Haridwar-Jodhpur and others.

Indian Oil donates Rs 1 lakh to NGO
KHARAR:
Universal Disabled Caretaker Society,an NGO,which was taking care of destitute and abandoned children,adults and mentally or physically challenged persons at its shelter in Padiala village near here got Rs 1 lakh donation from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited. In a release issued on Monday,the society said R K Arora,General Manager and V K Mitra,Senior Human Resources Manager,handed over the cheque to the society president Shamsher Singh. The donation was given for construction of a community kitchen (langar) hall at the society’s upcoming branch in Jhanjeri village near here.
