Hunt on for ‘missing’ guard,cops probe property angle

The family members of Ram Kamal,the “missing” guard,meanwhile,said he was in the “habit of going missing from home” and said he could “never kill anyone”.

“It is merely a coincidence that my husband went missing a day before Amarjit Singh was shot dead. He often does so. He just leaves,without disclosing his whereabouts to us. He usually visits his relatives in Uttar Pradesh. But he can’t murder anyone,” said Sarvesh Rani.

She said Ram Kamal had left home on Monday morning and did not return. “We have been desperately looking for him. My son,brother-in-law and a few neighbours have gone to UP to find him,” she told Newsline.

The police said Ram Kamal had left Home Guard services two years ago and had joined Sham Fashion Mall as a security guard. Amarjit had recruited him on the reference of a friend. “For the last one and a half months,he had been serving as Amarjit’s personal security guard,” said an officer.

Around seven years ago,Ram Kamal was once booked for travelling in Chandigarh Transport Undertaking buses on a forged identity card. “He was let off after a warning,” said the officer.

The police said they had questioned various people with criminal background to find a clue in the murder case. “We are trying to find the gang involved in the crime. One thing is for sure that the shooters were professional killers who had come to kill Amarjit and fired all six bullets from a .38 bore weapon,” said an officer.
