The students who scored second division and below in the Class XII examinations this year failed to get admission (in unreserved category) in BCom in any of the city colleges. The last cut-off in the UT pool was 79.2 per cent.
The officials too claimed that all the seats in BCom including reserved seats in Chandigarh colleges (other than UT pool) were filled with a high cut-off.
This time, the cut-off percentage for admission was unusually high in all the categories as most of the students passed the qualifying examination with fairly high percentage of marks, said Dr Karamjeet Singh Chief Coordinator,Centralised BCom I Online Admission 2010-11.
Average students aspiring for graduation in commerce from Chandigarh colleges returned disappointed on the last day of counselling. While GGDSD College,Sector 32,maintained the top rank with cut-off rank of 500 among 11 city government and private colleges,DAV,Sector 10,was second with cut-off rank of 722. MCM DAV College for Women in Sector 36 bagged third position with last rank of 732 while PGGCG-11 was on the fourth position with last rank of 1008 . Fifth and sixth position was maintained by PGGC-11 and Government College of Commerce and Business Administration Sector 42 with cut-off ranks of 1069 and 1116,respectively.
This is surprising for average students like me who want to do BCom but could not pursue it due to tough competition. The academics and experts should devise a solution for students who fail to get admissions, lamented a student.
