Take your time to soak in the colours,creativity,thought,moods…of as many as 90 artists who display their art works that range from photographs,sculptures,paintings,drawings,multi-media at the Annual Art Exhibition of the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi. The effort is to showcase under one roof a plethora of ideas,treatments,materials and genres of art.

On at the Punjab Kala Bhawan there is a competition,non-competition as well as invited artists section,with eminent painter Paramjit Singh selecting 43 art works in the student category and 25 from the professional category. What makes the exhibition unique is the fact how the old and new techniques come together to create a collage of creations,each work speaking to the viewer. Be it Jaspal Singh’s arresting photograph When the Shadow Speaks,a marvellous play of light and darkness,Abhishek’s photograph of a withering leaf,telling a story of life after,Gagandeep Singh’s photograph of a man finding solace in sleep…the works will make you smile,ponder,stop and stare. A representative of the tricity of Chandigarh,Mohali and Panchkula,you have renowned artists like Viren Tanwar, Viney Vadhera,Shiv Singh,Satwant Singh,Ravinder Sharma,Malkit Singh…part of the big show.

The section of sculptures is unique and absolutely commendable is the beautiful 90-page catalogue of the show,which brings encompasses the Akademi’s work,the thoughts of making Chandigarh a cultural hub and a fantastic view of the essence of the exhibition.

The show is on till October 11.
