With just two days left for the Panjab University Students’ Council elections, student organisations are doing their best to get support from voters. While campaigning at the university departments and hostels has been one way of appealing to the voters, the parties have also been resorting to other ways to lure the voters, free trips being one of them.

Members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) allegedly took students on a free trip to Shimla on Monday morning. The students allegedly assembled in the market area of Sector 15 at 6.30 am on Monday, and were taken to Shimla in two separate buses.

On Sunday morning, members of the Students’ Organisation of India (SOI) also allegedly took around 100 students from PU to Thunder Zone Amusement and Water Park near Mohali. Sources said that on Saturday, a few students from the Department of Chemical Engineering were taken to Sukhna Lake by the SOI members free of cost. Prior to this, over the last one week, student organisations claimed that there had been more instances of using such unfair means to get votes.

“This is an unfair way of getting votes, but there is no denying that all the student organisations are willing to do anything to make sure they get the maximum votes,” said a member of NSUI.
