While moving out in the garden,keep your eyes open. Plants do not speak but if we start observing them closely,we can make out if something is wrong. For instance,in the picture above,there is a congregation of ants on cucurbits (lauki) leaf. What could it be that has drawn ants to the leaf? Well,they have come there to milk the aphids. Presence of ants shows that the vine has been attacked by aphids. These ants do not kill aphids but caress them on the body so that they give out sweet dew. In facts,ants protect aphids and even transport them from one place to the other.

I sprayed Malathion on my vegetables yesterday but immediately after that,it rained. Should I repeat the spray or will it work?

You will have to spray once again. This time if you feel there may be rain,go in for rogor or metasystox.

Is this the right time to plant winter vegetables? Can I grow broccoli here? What is the best time to grow it?

Wait for another fortnight or so before you go in to plant winter vegetables. Of course,you can grow broccoli here with success. Sow the seed in October.

Please suggest a shrub that bears plenty of bold flowers. Preferably,it should have red or yellow blooms.

Go in for allamanda and hibiscus,you will find both the colours and also bold flowers that appear aplenty.

Take four to six inch long segments and plant them in pure sand – vertically or horizontally. Within a few days,they will strike roots and grow as independent plants. Take care not to touch the sap or wash your hands thoroughly if you do it – its a poisonous plant.
