After 10 years of creating stylish homes,Aradhana Kakar has put up an exhibition that showcases latest trends in interior design.

Interior designer Aradhana Kakar seems to have a fair understanding of the tastes and preferences of Chandigarh’s proud house owners. For the past decade,Kakar, has been designing and setting up homes, specialising in furniture trends. “People here have always been very proud of their houses and we see that more now,” says Kakar, who has put up an exhibition at her studio,Afflatus.

Housed in the heart of Panchkula’s Industrial Area,Afflatus is showcasing Kakar’s latest collection which includes furniture design as well as interior concepts. “Interior design like fashion is constantly changing and sometimes comes full circle. Earlier,it was all wood and fabric, then we saw lots of works in steel. There was a minimalist phase too but now the favourite is unusual combinations,” she adds.

The exhibition area showcases furniture designs where elements like wood have been used with leather, while plush upholstery combined with metal highlights. “There are no laid out rules to interior design now and experimentation is key,” says Kakar,as she shows off a Mughal jaali-work inspired screen from the exhibition. “Traditional design elements are being increasingly used now. Even internationally, ethnic styles, motifs are being embraced by interior designers in their work,” she explains.

Kakar’s style leans towards contemporary designs with an Indian touch. “From a steely, silver look,I now see a lot of gold making a comeback. In fact, nothing is a straight match,it’s all mixed up. With different fabrics, textures and prints, furniture is no longer the usual,” says Kakar,as she points to a winged high chair in an animal print from her collection.

Another highlight from her collection were the mirrors, including a pebble-design. “The use of glass and mirror has always been there in interior design but now it’s no longer about straight lines. In fact,at some places we have worked with leather frames ,” she says.
