Dancing Mobs in Delhi

They arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai on time, but not to catch a train.

They arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai on time, but not to catch a train. A group of 100 Mumbaikars went into dance mode, spinning and skipping to the music of Rang De Basanti on the platform, giving commuters a surprise treat. On YouTube, the video attracted 160,000 hits. Now,Delhi gets ready for its own flash mobs. One is being organised at a South Delhi mall on December 3 by 20-year-old engineering student,Ayush Gupta. The other will be held on New Year’s eve, possibly at the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station.

“We’ve been planning the event for a while. I had made the event page on Facebook around three weeks ago and it’s a coincidence that the Mumbai flash mob video surfaced on YouTube recently,” says Gupta, who has received 58 entries.

A flash mob comprises a group of people who, informed by social networking sites or word of mouth, gather at a public site to present an entertaining performance.

Registration for the December 3 event closed on Tuesday, but you can sign in for the flash mob being planned on New Year’s eve. Log onto the Facebook page of the organisers,Black,White and Moron, and sign in to join the mob.

So,even as the winter chill sets in,Delhities are putting on their dancing shoes.
