The tables been drawn and its a week-long roster of fine display of theatrics. Starting May 26,the North Zone Cultural Centre,Patiala,will be staging a five day theatre festival titled Adakarian 2011. Slated to begin on Wednesday,the plays to be staged on the first day were postponed due to rain. Now,the festival opens today with the same set of plays. The festival will stage plays by Dr Sahib Singh and will have themes running from love,tradition,separation to revenge,revolt,humour,partition etc. Vittch the Gap,which will be staged on May 26,is a play based upon a story by Prem Gorkhi. It revolves around a Jatt girl Preeti who is in love with a boy ,who belongs to the lower caste and how she marries him against all odds. This will be followed on Thursday by Andhe Hai Hum,a story of two blind beggars. The play is a satire on the whole society as to who is the real visually handicapped. Katha Turi Bahurangi on May 27 will bring alive seven stories by the legendary Punjabi writer Nanak Singh. The basic thread of all stories is humanity. May 28 has Prinde Jaan Hun Kithe,which throws light on how a Muslim girl bought by a rogue transforms him. Finally,the play Amar Katha will be the grand finale on May 29 and is about the journey of a character from 1947 to 1992,and how he is always in danger of losing his identity. The plays will be staged at Government College Sector 26,Chandigarh,at 6:45pm from May 25 to 29.
