The Mohali police today claimed to have cracked the murder of Dr Deepak Kaura, whose body was found in his car near Derabassi on December 21.

The Mohali police today claimed to have cracked the murder of Dr Deepak Kaura, whose body was found in his car near Derabassi on December 21. They booked Deepak Sharma, his wife Honey, residents of Sector 17 Panchkula, and Vishal,a Junior Engineer at PGI and Sector 20 resident,on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said at a press conference,“The three planned to blackmail Dr Kaura by using Honey to lure him and get some evidence against him in a CD or MMS. Posing as Jyotika Singh,Honey came in contact with Kaura on phone.”

After the trio failed to gather any incriminating ‘evidence’ against Kaura, they decided to abduct him for money, said Bhullar. He added that they planned to make a ransom call after abducting Kaura. According to the SSP,Vishal got in touch with Deepak as the latter was working with a mobile firm. Vishal had met him many times in relation to verification of phone connections. Vishal had learned that Kaura was a famous doctor and extremely rich.

Impersonating as Jyotika Singh,Honey got in touch with Dr Kaura. “On the day of the alleged murder,Deepak and Vishal dropped Honey at Sector 19. They themselves went to Deepak’s rented accommodation in Panchkula,” said Inspector Gurcharan Singh,in-charge,CIA branch.

On the fateful day, after spending some time in Sector 19,Kaura and Honey left for her Panchkula residence in Kaura’s car. “Kaura was taken by surprise when he found Deepak and Vishal in the house,” the Inspector added. “The two gave Kaura an injection to make him unconscious. As the injection did not have much effect, they injected again and also taped his mouth which led to his death,” said Inspector Gurcharan Singh.

The three then took away a diamond ring,iPod,Rado watch and cash from the deceased. Kaura’s body was kept on the backseat of his car and driven by Vishal. Deepak followed them in a Santro, allegedly stolen, which has been recovered by the police.
