The step-brother tag sounds a little rude, but Haider Khan is okay with it. “Aamir Khan is my step-brother,that’s it,” he draws the line, keeps it strictly to the family and moves on with his career, which is films of course. After assisting daddy Tahir Hussain for two years at his production house,Haider’s taken a detour and picked up acting. “Which basically pushes my plans of direction by a couple of more years,” he says, focusing all his energy on commercial mainstream cinema. “Hardcore entertainment, that’s where the star power lies. Serious dramas or art film is too stressful for an already stressed-out audience. They want the right mix,and once you click with the audience, you’re in,” he’s made up his mind that he’ll do only masala movies and make a mark on his own. “Take Aamir’s example. His choice of subject is always smart, and appeals the audience for he has their pulse. It’s the audience that makes or break you. You have to give it your best shot, and once you’re made that’s when you can sit back and experiment with art or parallel cinema,” come August and Haider will make his debut as an action romantic hero in the suspense thriller ‘Trump Card’. Produced by Reema Gupta and directed by Arshad Khan, the movie also stars lesser known actors Vikrum Kumar,Pankaj,Yashika,Mansi and Urvashi. In fact,an interesting teaser campaign titled,”What’s your Trump Card in life?” is also on the cards three weeks before the release of the film. “Running along is another film,in which Zeenat Aman plays my mother called Dil To Deewana Hai directed by Raja Bundela,” Haider is particularly excited about this film where he plays this poor out of luck guy who never gets the girl of his dreams. “Instead,he lands up with a total opposite….it’s a natural romantic comedy,” the guy’s already shuffling his cards, and cuts the deck which shows another film in the pipeline: Gharv starring southern siren Sadika Randhawa as a tough cop,and him as a gangster. “It’s more like Ankush with a touch of Company and Satya,” Haider delves into this fire ‘n’ ice,love-hate story of a cop and bhai in the backdrop of Mumbai slum, underworld, political nexus and high society.

From geek to gangster, comedy, action to realistic,Haider’s packed it all in. Quiz him which is his favourite, and he shoots: “They’re all my best cards, and I’ve done justice to all my films, let’s see which one clicks.’ Yup,let’s see!
