‘Inaction’ by cops: Colony 5 residents protest outside Sector-34 police station
Residents of Colony Number 5 today staged a protest outside the Sector-34 police station again,alleging police inaction. They shouted slogans alleging highhandedness of the SHO of the police station. The local unit of the BJP joined in,too. The residents alleged that two electricity contractors,Gurdev Singh and Anil Arora,charge inflated rates for electricity usage and indulged in violence when confronted with the issue. They also said the contractors use illegal kundi connections to distribute electricity in the area. While two of their complaints of violence and kidnapping against these contractors were still pending in the Sector-49 police station,the contractors and their men assaulted them,too,which provoked them to gherao the police station,they alleged.

I-T raids: Pharma companies surrender Rs 50 crore
Following raids by the Income Tax department on the premises of over 50 offices of three pharma companies on Friday,the latter have made a voluntary surrender of concealed income to the tune of Rs 50 crore. The department has seized over Rs 2.5 crore in cash and sealed at least 12 lockers belonging to the companies. Surya Pharmaceuticals surrendered Rs 20 crore,while Nectar Lifesciences and Parabolic Drugs surrendered Rs 15 crore each.

Bansal says MC should stand up to responsibility

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Pawan Kumar Bansal said on Sunday the Municipal Corporation should prove its worth with the departments that are being transferred to it. Gradually,more functions would be transferred to it,he added. The process for transfer of departments from the UT Administration to the Municipal Corporation under the 74th Amendment of the Constitution has been initiated; the final modalities are being worked out.
