A Naib Subedar from 6-Lancer battalion of the Army,who had died while performing a stunt in Agra on Saturday,was cremated with state honours at his native Dehar village near Lalru on Sunday.

Armyman who died performing stunts cremated

Mohali: A Naib Subedar from 6-Lancer battalion of the Army,who had died while performing a stunt in Agra on Saturday,was cremated with state honours at his native Dehar village near Lalru on Sunday. According to sources in the Army,Jasbir Singh was standing on a rope at a height of 40 feet,when he slipped and fell. He was rushed to the Army Hospital in Agra,where he was declared dead on arrival. A team from 6-Lancer battalion brought the body to the soldier’s native place where an Army contingent saluted the departed soul before sounding the last post at the crematorium. Civil and police officials laid wreaths on behalf of the state government. Jasbir Singh is survived by his wife,two children and parents.

UT to empower management panels of schools

Chandigarh: After constituting school management committees under the Right to Education Act,the UT education department is all set to empower them with financial and administrative powers. The aim is to check pilferage of facilities like uniforms,school bags,stationery,shoes and other items and to monitor school activities.

The committees with 75 per cent representation of parents and 25 per cent of teachers,local educationists and elected members of the education department will come into effect with the new session starting next month.
