Mohali: The brother of a former councilor and a woman were booked on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust for allegedly running an immigration racket,police said on Sunday. One Joginder Singh of Balachaur in Nawanshahr district had lodged a complaint that he paid Rs 5.5 lakh to Gurmukh Singh Walia and his accomplice Mandeep Kaur — consultants for Royal Study Abroad in Phase VII — on August 11,2010 to send his daughter Jaswinder Kaur to Australia for studies. “Neither has my daughter gone abroad nor have I got my money back,” he alleged. An FIR under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC have been registered against the accused.

15-year-old girl raped for 10 days in Mohali village

Mohali: A minor girl was repeatedly raped for 10 days after being abducted from her residence at Manakpur Sharief village in Mohali,the police said on Sunday. The 15-year-old was abducted by her neighbour in the early hours of January 20. She was locked inside an animal shed till she managed to escape on Saturday evening. After she returned home,her parents took her to the police station and lodged a formal complaint,said Investigating Officer ASI Amar Nath. P3

Kalka gangrape: Fourth accused yet to be identified

Panchkula: The police are yet to frame charges against Sushil Kumar,the fourth accused named in the Kalka gangrape case,as the 19-year-old victim and her parents are yet to identify him. The police said the family was not coming forward as she got married around six months ago. P3

MC finalises draft rules to maintain community centres

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation has finalised the draft comprising recommendations for the management of community centres and janj ghars. The draft comprises guidelines that will help in the maintenance of the community centres as well as the constitution of the governing body. The draft,prepared by the Arts,Culture and Sports Committee of the civic body under the chairpersonship of Councillor Brig K S Chandpuri (Retd),was submitted in November,2010.
