New diagnostic tools that promise disease prevention
With the growing incidence of lifestyle diseases like hypertension, diabetes, obesity and cardiac problems, new tools and tests are emerging that not only promise to slow down the progress of the disease if the intervention is at an early stage but in some cases also prevent it.
Lifestyle consultant Dr Sandeep Jassal of Live Life More looks at the broader aspect of prevention, insisting on changing food and exercise habits for a complete health make-over. Keeping one’s weight in check, stress levels down and regular check-ups are some of the must-do things on his list. Disease risk profiling is vital to find out if a person is genetically predisposed to a condition. If heart disease, diabetes,
hypertension run in the family, the patient can be cautious, says Dr Jassal. High-specificity markers, informs the doc,are the newly recommended parameter for diabetes. Instead of a usual blood test to check sugar levels, there is now a test called glycosylated hemoglobin,a glucose memory list, which gives three months average glucose control. With this test,we know how well the patient is managing his condition, he adds. Screenings for obesity, lipid profile also reveal a lot about one’s body. The C Reactive Protein is another parameter to know the likelihood of a persons chances of having heart disease. It checks inflammation of arteries for heart disease. Why let a catastrophe happen,if you can keep it at bay, says Dr Jassal.
The all-new Computer Meridian Diagnostics (CMD) presents a non-invasive check-up approved by the World Health Organization. It helps in the early detection of any malfunctioning or imbalance in the energy levels before symptoms can crop up,according to Anil Bansal here. CMD has evolved from the Russian space program, he says where deficiencies in the energy paths (meridians) are detected. Through sensors and the Internet, readings are sent to the CMD server in Germany via satellite and in less than three minutes a graphic report is presented. Its a comprehensive and painless health screening and any reading less than 50 per cent indicates that a particular organ is not working to its full capacity, adds Bansal.
At plastic surgeon Dr KM Kapoors Anticlock,an age reversal clinic and medispa, latest technology is used to help people look young and beautiful. Kapoor uses a Korean skin analyzer to gauge skin damage and ageing. We get to know about the pigment status, treatment and can assess how much damage can be repaired, he says, adding that sun damage and wrinkles are some of the problems addressed. The hair analysis tricology unit gives high-resolution pictures of the scalp and a close-up of the hair,to help the doc view the hair base and scalp and pores. This makes the treatment more targeted and effective, Kapoor says.
