Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday lashed out at the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community by deliberately delaying the permission to hold co-opted session of the newly-elected Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC).

Badal was in Tarn Taran to inaugurate a series of educational institutes — the building of the newly-constructed University College,a Government Adarsh Secondary School at Baler Khurd village and a Model School at Valtoha. He also laid the foundation of Baba Farid University Regional Centre at Sri Goindwal Sahib and inaugurated a power station at Algon village, which has been

upgraded from 66 KW to 220 KW.

The chief minister alleged that the Congress was again unduly interfering in the religious matters of Sikhs, which was not tolerable. He added that earlier, the Congress had delayed the SGPC elections by two years. Now,it was not

co-opting the newly-elected members, which was delaying the election of new executive of the “Parliament of the Sikhs”. “We vehemently oppose these cheap tactics of the Congress and will not allow them to interfere in the religious matters of the Sikhs,” he said.

Slamming the Manpreet Singh Badal-led Sanjha Morcha,Badal said: “This Morcha is a pack of power-starved opportunists.”

Asked about forming an alliance with other parties along with the BJP,the chief minister said that SAD will welcome any alliance that aims at defeating the Congress.
