Candidates for the Municipal Corporation elections filed their nomination papers on Friday.
With crowds of supporters,candidates went to the designated returning officers and filed their papers. November 28 is the last date for filing nominations,the process is expected to pick up pace in the coming days.
Congress candidate,Devinder Singh Babla filed nomination from ward 18 comprising Sectors 27,28 and 30. He was accompanied by his family and residents of the ward.
He has declared immovable assets worth Rs 7 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 60 lakh. These include a two canal house in Sector 28. He has a 50 per cent share in a Sector 19 house and owns a flat in Bombay.
Babla also owns several cars including a Mercedes Benz,Hyundai i20 and an Esteem. His wifes movable assets are worth Rs 29 lakh and immovable assets are worth Rs 2.20 crore.
The affidavit requires details of the criminal cases registered against the candidates and their status. Babla has mentioned details of all seven cases that were registered against him.
Of the seven,he has been acquitted in two and one has been cancelled. Three other cases are currently proceeding in court.
These include the shed allotment case pertaining to the anomalies in allotment of sheds in Sector 26 grain market.
Another pertains to a SIM being recovered from Babla when he was being taken to Burail Jail. The third case is about Babla allegedly influencing a job appointment.
Another Congress candidate H S Lucky also filed his nominations on Friday from ward 16. He has declared immovable assets worth Rs 4.30 crore.
These include a one canal house in Sector 8 where he owns 15 per cent share. He has 25 per cent share in a showroom in Sector 27. Lucky also has 33 per cent share in half-acre of agricultural land in Dhanas.
Lucky also declared movable assets worth Rs 25 lakh. He owns two cars including a Mercedes Benz and a Skoda. Luckys wife has immovable assets worth Rs 1 crore and movable assets worth Rs 25 lakh including 25 tolas gold and diamonds.
Meanwhile some BSP candidates also filed their nominations on Friday. These include S M Khan,Jagir Singh and Nirmala Devi. Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has fielded their general secretary B S Gill from ward 17. This was done after Congress refused tickets to any of their candidates. This is the first time that INTUC has fielded an independent candidate for the polls.
