Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday received warrants of six lawyers who were recently elevated to high court judgeship. The six — R N Raina,N K Sanghi,Rameshwar Malik,T S Dhindsa,P S Dhaliwal and Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia — are likely to be administered oath on Friday.

PCS aspirant commits suicide

Patiala: Narinder Singh (27),who was appearing in PCS mains exam and was living as a paying guest in a house in Sant Nagar committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance on Tuesday evening. “A suicide note recovered from the deceased read that he could not do well in Punjabi paper due to his cervical problem and hence was ending his life,” said civil lines SHO Kuldeep Singh. Narinder hailed from Mansa and had been working as a teacher.

108 cops awarded for achievements

Chandigarh: Punjab DGP P S Gill awarded 108 police officers,from the rank of constable to Director General of Police,the Director General Commendation Disc on the basis of their outstanding policing achievements and in recognition of their service to the public on Wednesday.

Gold bangles worth Rs 1.5 lakh snatched

Jalandhar: An incident of snatching occurred around 6.00 am in Model Town locality on Wednesday. Four gold bangles worth Rs 1.5 lakhs were snatched from Davinder Kaur (65) when she was on her morning walk. The snatchers also tried to remove her finger-ring but they could not remove it and pushed her out of the car and fled.

Man dies after hit by truck

Jalandhar: A resident of Dasuya in Hoshiarpur district died on the spot when his scooter was hit by a truck from the rear at Pathankot chowk in Jalandhar on Wednesday morning. Surinder Singh (40) was coming from Dasuya to Jalandhar when the accident took place. Police have arrested the driver.

No tax,no car

Amritsar: The District Transport Officer,Amritsar Vimal Kumar Setia has issued directions to all dealers that payment of motor vehicle tax and registration fees must be made by the customer to dealers at the time of purchase of vehicles.
