Fulbright Nehru fellowship for GNDU biotech scholar

AMRITSAR: Guru Nanak Dev University Ph.D scholar Isha Sharma would be awarded Fulbright Nehru Doctoral and Professional Research Fellowship offered by Foreign Fulbright Scholarship Board (FSB),Washington DC,USA. She is among 26 candidates who have been selected in various disciplines from India. According to Dr PK Pati,,head of the department of biotechnology,Sharma would carry out research for nine months with Dr Streven D Clouse,department of horticulture sciences,North Carolina State University,US.

GNDU result re-evaluation forms out

AMRITSAR: All the students of Guru Nanak Dev University who desire to get their answer sheets re-evaluated can apply till August 16. Dr RK Bedi,Professor in-charge (examinations),said that those students who have not received their report cards,can download it from university website http://www.gndu.ac.in.

Train the trainer guide programme concludes

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board,in association with Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd (an undertaking of the Government of Karnataka) organised the first ever ‘Train the Trainer Nature Guide’ programme successfully in Chandigarh. After a written examination and interview,15 candidates were shortlisted for training. Nominations were also received from the department of forests and some NGOs. The 23 trained candidates will now be a part of the resource pool for Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board to help in capacity building for eco-tourism guides.

Punjab CII welcomes Indo-Pak trade talks

AMRITSAR: The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII),local chapter head Suneet Kochhar on Thursday said that the talks between foreign ministers of India and Pakistan has given a boost to the bi-lateral trade as the neighbouring country is likely to name more items in the import and exports lists meant for India.

New-born male child thrown in a well

PHAGWARA: A new-born male child was recovered from a deserted well in Bhagana village on Thursday. The child was thrown in the well barely a few hours after birth,the police said. A passer by happened to hear the cries of the child and informed the village sarpanch. The police too reached the spot brought out the child and took it to a hospital in Phagwara where he died later.

Gas supply hit in Majha,Doaba

JALANDHAR: The LPG supply to the entire Majha,Doaba regions of Punjab,Ropar district and a portion of Himachal Pradesh has been hit as the gas supply to Hindustan Petroleum’s bottling plant at Nasrala dried up. Fresh supply of gas has not reached the bottling plant since Wednesday as several tankers of the company were stuck up due to a fair of ‘Kanwarias’ on the way. Senior Regional Manager of HPCL,S K Gupta,confirmed that the supplies were hit as gas tankers could not reach Nasral. However,he said that the supplies were likely to be normal soon.

Cong seeks inventory of seized drugs,liquor

CHANDIGARH: Congress legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira has written to the Chief Electoral Officer,Punjab,Kusumjit Kaur requesting the poll panel to seek a status report from the Punjab Police on large quantities of drugs and liquor seized by it. Khaira said that an inventory was necessary as the seized drugs and liquor are likely to be misused by police-politician mafia and the ruling party to influence voters during the ensuing Vidhan Sabha elections.
