GVK signs pact with PSPCL for expansion of Goindwal thermal
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GVK group for the expansion of its coal-based Goindwal Sahib thermal power plant in Tarn Taran. KD Chaudhri,Chairman-cum-Managing Director of PSPCL,said the MoU was about increasing the capacity of the existing 540 MW coal-based Goindwal plant to 1860 MW .
Chaudhri said additional land required for the extension of the thermal plant would be only 150 to 170 acres and phase II of 1320 MW will be set up at the same place where phase I is under construction now. He said the plant will get water from Beas river and coal for Phase II will be arranged by the developer.
NGOs say Census will not do justice to people with disability
Two organisations of persons with disabilities have voiced concern that the Census of 2011 will not be able to gather accurate data regarding the disabled,as census enumerators have not been sensitised on the subject of disability. Representatives of National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People and Disability Rights Group,both national-level NGOs,said that,to sensitise enumerators an hour-long slot was to be devoted to disability in the training of census officials (COs),but in Punjab such training was given only in Chandigarh and Jalandhar.
SAD-BJP set to return to power: Sukhbir
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday said that people of Punjab had made up their mind to honour the SAD-BJP government with a repeat mandate based upon its sterling performance on actualising development initiatives. Speaking at a gathering after laying foundation stones of a Rs 4.86-crore mini-hospital here at Bajakhana and a Rs 2.05-crore water works at Bargari village, Badal said the SAD-BJP government was set to replicate NDAs Bihar electoral success.
Dhumal addresses grievances at public meet
Prashashan Janta Ke Dwar,an endeavour to bring administration to the doorsteps of the people,was today presided over by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal at Nurpur in Kangra district as part of his winter sojourn in the lower areas of the state. As many as 407 people got their applications registered before presenting the same before the CM and the majority were disposed of instantly.
