Chandigarh:DIYA,the youth wing of Akhil Vishwa Gayatri Parivar,Chandigarh,Mohali and Panchkula,will organise a blood donation camp on Tuesday to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. The camp will be held from 9 am onwards at Lala Lajpat Rai Bhawan,Sector-15 here during an ongoing Pustak Mela at the venue.

Dengue cases rise to 96

Chandigarh:Dengue fever continues to grip city residents with the total number of cases rising to 96. Officials in the UT health department said that last week 28 new cases have been reported which include 16 cases from the city.

British School to hold tests for Cambridge Univ

Chandigarh:University of Cambridge has appointed The British School Sector 44 as its Associate Centre at Chandigarh and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between representatives from both sides here today. Ronald Michael,Area Manager of Examinations (North India and Nepal),at Cambridge University Press India Pvt. Ltd (CUPIPL),was present to sign the agreement. The school shall be responsible for conducting tests under the Cambridge ESOL umbrella,including KET (Key English Test),YLE (Young Learners of English) and TKT (Teachers Knowledge Testing).

Help given to schoolkids with special needs

Chandigarh:The Chandigarh unit of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan,in collaboration with ALIMCO (Artificial limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India),distributed around 25 hearing aids,30 calipers,8 tricycles,17 wheel chairs and crutches and braille sticks among children with special needs across schools today at GGMSSS 18.

LIC celebrates social security month

Chandigarh:October is celebrated as social security month by LIC with an aim to spread life insurance among socially and economically backward classes. According to G P Meena,Manager (Pension and Group Schemes) LIC paid around Rs 404 crores as claims to families below the poverty line last year and at present has two major schemes for the benefit of weaker sections,namely Janashree Bima Yojana and Aam Admi Bima Yojana with an added benefit of Shiksha Sahayog Yojana free of cost. The total number of lives covered under the Janashree Bima Yojana was 2,20,56,435 till March 2012.
