Sunkaria inspects dispensaries
Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria,has issued orders that doctors posted at the dispensaries transferred to the Municipal Corporation will look after the dispensary full time. During a check on the dispensaries on Wednesday,it was found that the doctors had been given duties at multiple places due to which they were absent from the dispensaries. Dr Sunkaria has now asked that the doctors should work full time in the dispensaries in order to streamline the healthcare system. The inspection on Wednesday had revealed that medicines were reported to be in short supply. Sunkaria directed that the actual requirement be specified so that the same could be procured. The dispensaries in Sectors 40,38,42,35,20,19 and 8 were inspected on Thursday.
Indian Foundry Congress from Feb 11 to 13
The city is hosting the 59th Indian Foundry Congress from February 11 to 13,coupled with the Indian Foundry Expo and the Cast India Expo,at Parade Ground in Sector 17 here. Naresh Garg,national president of Institute of Indian Foundrymen,said on Thursday India had reached the second spot in the world rank of casting production. Over 250 exhibitors are taking part in the expo,with a major participation from Germany,Italy,Japan,China and Taiwan. One of the participants at the expo is a firm set up by a Sikh family that migrated to Japan in 1955,and was among the pioneers in facilitating trade between India and Japan. Talking to the media,Deshdeep Wasu,the third generation entrepreneur of the family,said: “We have been facilitating the transfer of this technology to India in the automobile sector,the power sector and various other areas.”
Three cars gutted in mystery fire
Three cars caught fire in a house in Sector 16 in the early hours of Thursday under mysterious circumstances. The Fire Control Room received a call at 3.25 am. Immediately,two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control. According to Naresh Kumar,the owner,all his three cars a Maruti Swift,a Swift Dzire and Hyundai Accent were damaged,besides a two-wheeler parked nearby. The cause of the fire is not known yet.
3 dead,another hurt in accidents
Three persons died and another sustained serious injuries in three road mishaps in Mohali over the last 24 hours. Police said Jinder Singh (40),a resident of Kurli village near Zirakpur,died and Malkiat Singh (38),sustained serious injuries when an unknown vehicle hit their motorcycle near KK brick kiln on Zirakpur-Patiala highway around 8 pm. Dharam Singh of Patialas Basantpur village died when a recklessly driven Tata-207 collided with his Indica on Chandigarh-Mullanpur road around 12.30 am. The driver of the rogue vehicle was arrested. An unidentified mentally challenged person was mowed down by a speeding vehicle on Kharar-Banur Road near Dairi village in Mohali around 7.30 pm.
Convict in wifes suicide case ends life
Ram Singh (27),convicted for life for abetting his wifes suicide,ended his life at his home in Bhukari village near Lalru last evening. He had come home on January 11 on parole for a month and was supposed to return to Patiala jail on Wednesday. Police said he had married six years ago and his wife Sunita had committed suicide within six months. He left a suicide note mentioning that he cannot tolerate separation from his wife and was committing suicide due to false allegations against him.
Sanitation campaign begins
A sanitation campaign was flagged off by Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh from Housing Board Colony,Khuda Lahora and Dhanas Colony on Thursday. The area was sprayed by the Malaria Department,fogging was done and efforts were made to spread awareness about solid waste management.
Panchkula lawyers on strike
Strike affected work at Panchkula District Court as the Bar association came in support of their counterparts in Rewari. The Rewari Bar is on strike to protest police inaction in the murder of a lawyer.
Maintain record of visitors,DM tells cybercafes
In a prohibitory order under Section 144 of CrPC promulgated with immediate effect on Thursday,District Magistrate Parveen Kumar instructed cybercafe owners to ensure that visitors present identity proofs and make proper entries in register with complete information. The order will remain in force till April 6.
