Lok Adalat held at Behlana village
Chandigarh: The State Legal services Authority,Chandigarh,in collaboration with State NSS Cell,Chandigarh held a legal aid clinic-cum-Lok Adalat on Tuesday in Behlana.
The legal aid is aimed at providing legal services at the doorsteps to the people of Chandigarh. The State Legal services Authority,Chandigarh and State NSS Cell,has decided to hold Legal Aid-cum-Lok Adalat,in all villages of Chandigarh
The Gram Panchayat submitted a representation requesting for intervention in the matters such as additional rooms for government school,play ground,civil dispensary,disputes regarding water discharge from CRPF Campus,bills and provision of cremation ground
The Authority will take up these matters with the departments concerned to settle the disputes as early as possible, said Jagdeep Jain,Member Secretary of the state Legal services Authority
GMSH employees stage protest
Chandigarh: The contractual workers at Government Multi Specialty Hospital,Sector 16 staged a dharna for two hours in protest against the failure of the contractor to disburse their salaries . They,however,called off their protest after assurance by the hospital authorities that their salaries would be disbursed on Thursday.
Jewellery stolen from Zirakpur hotel
Mohali: A Shimla woman was robbed of her diamond and gold ornaments at a hotel in Zirakpur,the police said here today.
Gurcharan Kaur told the police that she had booked 8 rooms at a Zirakpur hotel for a wedding ceremony on December 12 and on next morning before they checked out,a hotel waiter came into her room and rummaged her bed on the pretext of counting the blankets. After reaching Shimla when I saw my purse,I was shocked to find my diamond and gold sets missing, submitted she,while accusing the hotel waiter of stealing away her valuables. Investigating Officer (IO) Gurwinder Singh said the hotel waiter Deva,whom the complainant named as accused,was arrested and sent to 14-day judicial remand by a local court. However,no recovery of the stolen articles was made as yet,he confirmed.

Seminar on insurance scenario in Patiala on Friday
Mohali: The All India General Insurance SC/ST Employees Welfare Association will organize a seminar on emerging trends in insurance sector at Rajindra Gymkhana and Mohindra Club in Patiala on Friday. Top brass of insurance sector in the country along with management experts will participate in the deliberations and address over 500 delegates from across the country.
Disclosing this,here today,Vinod Dhundia,Secretary General of the north zone of the All India Insurance Employees Union and Sajjan Kumar,general secretary of the north zone of the union,said the seminar would coincide with the 6th northern zone general body conference of the association.
They said hundreds of delegates,including branch managers,development officers and other ranks from all over the region,have already confirmed their participation.

To reach out to people in far-flung areas,PGI launches telepsychiatry project
Chandigarh: The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has started telepsychiatry project to reach out to patients in far away places.
The project ,Development and implementation of model telepsychiatry application for delivering mental healthcare in remote areas (using medical knowledge-based decision support system) has been started by the Department of Psychiatry at PGI under the guidance of Dr Savita Malhotra and Dr Subho Chakrabarti. The project is assisted by the Department of Science and Technology,Government of India.
