Strength, loyalty, command, intelligence and innocence are the emotions that five artists have captured in their paintings, depicting birds and animals, which are displayed as part of Kadamb Arts exhibition Caged Un-Caged. Curator Neenu Vij says that man is always in awe of the effortless and joyous flight of winged beauties, their capacity to weave a shelter with the weakest materials and their courage to let go of their children as soon as they take their first flight. Although man is better equipped with speech and brain,he has a lot to learn from these creatures, said Vij,a painter herself. In the exhibition,Nawal Kishore from Ghaziabad has used earthy tones and decorative layers to depict the sanctity and simplicity of two cows looking at greener pastures. Sangeeta Murthy from Gurgaon has worked in acrylics, and her two works depict turtles in motion. Ritu Chowdharys oil on canvas depicts the eyes and expressions of two birds in close contact. The work in vivid blue and green is delicately and intricately executed. An interesting work is Richa Guptas cow, with many colourful images painted on her body. Shalendra Singh has created pretty pictures with fluffy yellow chicks.
The exhibition is on at Hotel Aquamarine,Sector 22,till April 7.
Clown Plaza
The Centre for Education and Voluntary Action (CEVA) Drama Repertory Company has been working in the field of clowning for the past one year. The group recently worked with clowning specialists such as Naranjan Goswami from Kolkata, and Sabine Choucair and Gabriela Munoz from London. A play Romeo Juliet and Seven Clowns evolved during the three-month workshop. This play opened the Nandikar National Theatre Festival in Kolkata in December last year. CEVA will now present an event called Clown Act in the Sector 17 plaza, bringing the audience close to freedom and playfulness of clowning. The participants will engage in various games and clowning exercises with a possibility of opening an inner window that can help people accept their negatives and positives. The basic idea, says theatre director GS Chani,is to inspire people to love themselves without being judgmental. Clown Act will be held on April 5 at 5 pm.
