In case you are still missing the point with these back-to-back bridal shows being hosted all around town, then we’ll put a finger on the trend for you. The wedding season is upon us and all the ladies looking to tie the knot soon can pick and choose from options that lie ahead. From designer lehengas that make the most of bling to diamond jewellery for the D-day,here’s all that worth investing in.

* KALIDAAR: This trend seems to have come a full circle. Remember the Anaarkali suits that boasted of umpteen ‘kalis’? Well, time to pull it back from the design books. “Kalidaar suits with tight lycra churidaar are a wise investment,” feels designer Pratibha Mahajan Sahi who runs her label store ‘Omana’ in Sector 21. She also recommends dipping deeper into the colour palette. “For a trousseau,a kalidaar suit can be styled in rich colours with traditional zardozi and even brocade,” adds the designer who also recommends stocking up on a silken saree for keeps.

* OVER THE TOP: While the last couple of seasons were all about understated elegance, this year the wedding lehenga is giving recession a thumbs down. One look at CTC Plaza’s wedding lineup and you can’t help but gape at the stone-studded lehengas that make the most of colour and figure-slimming silhouettes. At the same time blouses like corsets and backless cholis, puff sleeves, experimental necklines are in. Also the lehengas now come with double dupattas in lighter fabrics such as net to cover the bride’s head while going with the heavier one as a shoulder drape.

* VELVET: The soft and silky fabric is no longer just for cozy razais! In fact the fabric is making an an appearance on all ensembles formal. Yes,velvet, the fabric that died away on the trend-o-meter some years back is clocking big again. “It’s really a winter favourite and the rich colours make it an ideal pick for a bride to be,” mentioned Vijay Pesswani of the label ‘Spunkkz’ that exhibited at the day-long ‘Exotic Bridal Show’ on at the Taj.

* JEWELS: When it comes to baubles, the bride for the year can forget minimalism. One look at the special bridal collection by Goenka Exports and you’ll realise it’s raining diamonds. “Till a while back diamonds weren’t the first choice for wedding wear but that’s all changing,” shares Nitin Goenka as he puts forth blinding pieces in front of us. Also for those would be brides putting together a trousseau,it’s wise to invest in one big cocktail ring that makes the most of bling. Sector 23-based AV jewellers offer an impressive lineup with rings also bringing in big stones and the like. For a more traditional bride, nothing works better than kundan.

* WINTER SMART: In the excitement to shop for finery, one tends to forget the basics. Well,it would be wise to invest in a smart winter jacket. Forget all black. In fact,a muted red or beige is better and at Red Tag you can lay your hands on sassy Western labels like Macy’s,Bloomingdales,Burberry and more. Going by the collection,a fur lining seems to top the trend..”
