Residents of five societies near Sardar Estate area in Vadodara are facing problems due to waterlogging caused by the damaged valve of a newly-constructed water tank. Water now covers streets and even places of worship, making life miserable for the locals.
According to the residents of Shiv Shakti Nagar,Jay Ambenagar,Sarita Darshan,Meera Society and Kamdar Society, water leaked from the tank about seven days ago when the municipal corporation tried to increase the water pressure damaging one of the valves in the process.
For us,it is as bad as the monsoons. The stagnant water has covered the temple premises and streets for the last seven days, said Baldev Brahmbhatt of Jay Ambenagar. Another resident from the same society,Ishwar Parmar, said,We fear that the stagnant water may lead to a rise in water-borne diseases. Also, the foul smell emanating from the water is getting intolerable with each passing day.
Municipal Corporator Lalit Raj said they were aware of the problems being faced by people of this area, which would be solved in a day or two.
Its a slum area and we wanted to provide them with water from the mainline. While we were doing it,the water pressure increased all of a sudden leading to a damaged connection, Raj said.
