Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Tuesday called on dissident BJP MLA Dr Kanu Kalsaria who is launching a 10-day long cycle rally from Mahuva to Jamnagar to create awareness against forcible land acquisition by the state government.
Ramdev visited Dr Kalsaria at the latters hospital at Mahuva.
Speculation was rife in political circles that Ramdev reportedly tried to prevail upon him to withdraw his programme as it would adversely affect the BJP in December 2012 Assembly elections.
Dr Kalsaria confirmed that the yoga guru had met him but did not say if he offered any advice. The dissident BJP MLA said his agitation against acquisition of agricultural land for industrial purposes would go as planned.
Asked why BJP was not throwing him out of the party despite his alleged anti-party activities,Dr Kalsaria retorted,It is for BJP leaders to decide.
Ramdev is reported to have been huddled for 45 minutes with Dr Kalsaria and held discussions on a variety of issues in the state, particularly relating to land acquisition.
Dr Kalsaria said he briefed Ramdev about the state governments action in acquiring the land of farmers without the latters consent by using state power.
Asked about Ramdevs reactions, the three-time MLA from Mahuva said the yoga guru opposed the forcible acquisition of farmers land and wanted amendments in the land acquisition laws.
Ramdev also addressed an audience in the premises of the hospital, urging people to give up tobacco consumption and practice yoga that brought people closer to spirituality and religion.
