Doc arrested in child trafficking case gets bail

The Gujarat High Court (HC) on Monday granted regular bail to Ahmedabad-based Dr Bharat Atit who was arrested in connection with a child trafficking case while barring him from working as professor at two government medical colleges Shardaben Hospital and NHL Medical College.

A single-judge bench of HC passed the order while acting on Atits bail petition.

Dr Atit,who is husband of former Ahmedabad mayor Malini Atit,was arrested by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) in February after he produced himself before it for interrogation in the case.

Initially,Atit had moved an anticipatory bail petition before the HC but withdrew it later.

Atits lawyer Mitesh Amin had argued that child trafficking charge against Atit did not hold since the two children were being raised by a person. Instead,it was a case of circumventing the adoption procedure,he argued,adding that the investigation in the case was also over.

The case come to light when one Mona alias Manjula Thakor filed a complaint of rape against her boyfriend Rajkumar Yadav,son of a police constable in Nadiad. During investigation,it was found Mona at agreed to become a surrogate mother at the behest of Atit. Her boyfriend had taken some of the money she got from Atit.

She wanted to trap her boyfriend by filing a fake complaint of rape but ended up exposing Dr Atits racket.
