Addressing the media at the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Leader of Congress Legislative Party Amit Chavda demanded the state government make public the report of Justice (retired) K S Jhaveri on reservation to OBCs in local self-governments. If the report is not made public within a week, Congress MLAs will stage a protest outside the Chief Minister’s office, he stated. “While elections are pending in more than 7,000 village panchayats. the government is hiding the report. We request the Chief Minister to immediately make the report of the dedicated commission available in the public domain. If he does not take action in this regard within a week, there will be a dharna outside his office. We demand that the government publish the report immediately,” Chavda added. The Congress leader said the state's BJP-run government has ignored the Jhaveri Commission report as well as the Supreme Court's instructions and discriminated against the OBC communities. In July 2022, the Gujarat government constituted a commission to fix reservation for OBC communities in elections to local bodies. “When the commission was formed, it was announced that it would give a report within 90 days. But we all know that the term of the commission was extended thrice. Even after that, the report was not accepted by the government. The commission said that the report was ready but the government did not accept it in order to delay the proceedings. The government accepted the report of the Commission in April 2023 but till date, has not made it public,” Chavda said. The Congress also alleged that the law and order situation has collapsed in Gujarat, adding that alcohol and drugs mafia, land mafia, mining mafia, medical mafia, rapists and extortionists are rampant in the state. Demanding proper investigation in the PMJAY scam involving Khyati Hospital, Chavda said it seems a systematic network was running in the entire state.
