Upbeat after the anointment of Narendra Modi as the campaign committee chief, the Bihar unit of the BJP now thinks that split with the JD(U) is just a matter of time and has begun preparations for a life without its partner in the state politics.
Though the resignation of party patriarch L K Advani from all party posts has withheld senior leaders from going into overdrive over Modi elevation, the BJP has been getting great feedback from block and district levels over Modi as campaign committee chairman. Grassroots cadres are also enthused about Modi being invited to attend Hunkar rally at Patna in October.
The first sign of open support for Modi was exhibited on Monday with the EBC cell of the party taking out a march at Patna flaunting elevation of Modi, who belongs to Ghanchi caste (oil pressers) which is an EBC in Bihar.
The party is ready with a list of booth committees for entire state almost a year before the 2014 elections. It will also hold meeting at all 243 Assembly segments on June 29 and 30. The party has 91 seats in the present House.
Senior party leaders like Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, national vice-president C P Thakur and state president Mangal Pandey have already pledged their support to Modi. The Bihar Deputy CM,who faced criticism from his party colleagues in the past for being close to Nitish Kumar, has now also come out in open support for the Gujarat Chief Minister. In a written press release,Sushil Kumar Modi said: Modis elevation will pave way for the NDA coming to power in 2014 elections.
Thakur told The Indian Express,Even though we would like the alliance to continue,we have to get ready for a life without the JD(U). The party has gone by popular sentiments to give an important role to Narendra Modi.
Thakur said even though Bihar alliance has been doing very well, the JD(U) alone would be responsible for bringing itself in a situation of almost no return in the name of secularism.
The BJP that has already activated its cadre by regular field visits by top leaders, has prepared the list of booth committees and will present it to national president Rajnath Singh during a function at Patna on June 23. The party has already assigned number of workers, who would be deputed at each booth across the state to help bring their voters to vote.
