Former Muzaffarnagar MP and Union Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Sanjeev Kumar Balyan is a known face in Indian politics. He has a strong presence in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Born on November 23, 1972, in the Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, Balyan's political journey began when he decided to join the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during his college days. His association with the RSS laid the foundation for his political career, as he imbibed the organization's values and principles. Later, he formally joined the BJP and began his active involvement in politics.
He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Muzaffarnagar in the 2014 general elections. While in 2014, he had defeated his BSP rival Kadir Rana by a margin of more than 4 lakh votes, in 2019, the late Rashtriya Lok Dal patriarch Ajit Singh gave him a tough fight and Balyan’s victory margin was a paltry 5,426 votes, including 4,245 postal votes.
Despite all the rumours going around, Baliayan was eventually announced as the BJP candidate from Muzzafarnagar in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, avoiding the long list of sitting MPs dropped by the party. However, he eventually lost the election to SP's Harendra Singh Malik by a mere margin of just over 20 thousand votes.
