ABOUT Rishi Kapoor

Rishi Kapoor: A Legacy in Indian Cinema Rishi Kapoor, a name synonymous with romantic heroism and nuanced character acting in Hindi cinema, passed away on April 30, 2020, at the age of 67. His five-decade-long career, marked by both critical acclaim and box-office success, cemented his status as one of Bollywood's most celebrated actors. Born into the illustrious Kapoor family, his cinematic journey began as a child artist in his father Raj Kapoor's Mera Naam Joker, earning him a National Film Award. His breakthrough came with Bobby (1973), a teen romance opposite Dimple Kapadia, which catapulted him to stardom and won him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor. The 1970s and 80s saw him dominate the romantic lead roles, starring in numerous blockbusters including Kabhi Kabhie, Amar Akbar Anthony, Chandni, and Nagina. Kapoor’s versatility shone through as he transitioned to character roles in the 2000s. His performances in films like Hum Tum, Fanaa, Agneepath, and Kapoor & Sons garnered widespread critical praise, earning him Filmfare Awards for Best Actor (Critics) and Best Supporting Actor. His final film, Sharmaji Namkeen, released posthumously, showcased his enduring talent. He received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, a testament to his enduring contribution to Indian cinema. Beyond his screen presence, Kapoor was known for his outspoken nature and his strong family bonds with his wife, actress Neetu Singh, and their two children. His untimely death due to leukemia marked a significant loss for the Indian film industry.
