According to the Punjab Agriculture Department, there are 17.60 lakh farmers eligible under this scheme in the state, out of which only 2.50 lakh farmers could avail of the 12th instalment, which was due in December.

The scheme was announced in February 2019 in the Budget. The first instalment was for December 2018-March 2019 period. The fund is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

The first installment is due between April 1 and July 31. Last year, most beneficiaries received the money in their bank accounts between March 24 and April 20. This year, as April ends, no farm households has received any money.

According to a written reply by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, so far, around Rs 2,326.88 crore has been disbursed to beneficiaries who were found ineligible for the scheme, of which Rs 231.76 crore was recovered.
