Son of film producer Surinder Kapoor, he began with minor roles, notably in Hamare Tumhare (1979). His breakthrough came with Mashaal (1984), leading to a string of action-packed hits like Meri Jung, Karma, Mr. India, Tezaab, and Ram Lakhan, solidifying his star status in the 1980s. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Kapoor continued to deliver commercially successful films including Beta, Andaz, Virasat, and Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain.
