After the jazz, pomp and show of the opening ceremony at the Rio 2016 Olympics, the action gets underway from various venues across the city and in some cases around Brazil. Football action, for example, is already underway and is being played in other cities of the football loving nation as well.

After all the early doubts and the questions over Rio de Janeiro’s capabilities of handling an event of such magnitude, the real action finally gets underway. Some doubters would continue to question Brazil’s spending, corruption and infrastructure concerns but the organisers would look to put all those doubts to rest by hosting the perfect games – a promise they made in the run up and the IOC would hope comes true.

Even before the ceremony got underway, the archery ranking round produced a mixed bag. While it was reason to rejoice with Atanu Das finishing fifth in the individual rankings round, the women had a rather disappointing show. Deepika Kumar was the best performing woman in the individual round finishing 20th, the team could only muster a seventh.
