Hosts India struck late after Keaton Jennings scored his maiden Test ton in his debut for England at Wankhede Stadium. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Alastair Cook and Jennings opened for the visitors, with Hasseb hameed ruled out of the tournament. England openers added 99 runs before Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Cook at 46. However, R Ashwin brought India back with a late three-wicket burst on Day 1. At stumps, Ben Stokes was unbeaten on 25 runs, while Jos Buttler was batting on 18 not out. (Source: Reuters)

Ravindra Jadeja, recently proving his worth as one of the all-rounders in the current Indian squad, got Alastair Cook in his very first over. Jadeja tossed the ball and as the ball was slower, Cook, who was coming down the track, missed it and the ball sneaked through his bat and pad and led to him being stumped. This was the fifth time the England skipper was being stumped in 250 innings.

Keaton Jennings, who had come in as replacement for the injured batsman Haseeb Hameed after the third game, made it count as he stuck 112 in 219 balls and laced with 13 fours. Jennings, was dropped catch when he had not opened his account, shared 99 runs opening partnership, 37 for the second and 94 for the third wicket with Moeen Ali. (Source: Reuters)

R Ashwin, who is one short of his 23rd fifer, inflicted a double blow on England as Keaton Jennings was caught at gully two balls later, with Cheteshwar Pujara taking a sharp low catch to dismiss the England player. The off-spinner was near unplayable in his eight-over spell. Stokes survived somehow, but Jonny Bairstow was caught sweeping at square leg as he tried to break the shackles. Joe Root was Ashwin's first victim. (Source: Reuters)
